1. Skalica days

The festival in its present form features many traditions, music, dance, exhibitions, sports events and entertainment for all ages. The festivities that took place in the town when Skalica was promoted to royal free town, together with a big craft fair, can be considered as the festival's predecessor. Since then, many things have changed, many have been added and we strive to preserve part of the history and traditions in the form of a fair, historical programmes, a march and events; introduce Skalica together with all its monuments; show the past but at the same time bring in new, modern elements – everything that visitors nowadays are interested in.

2. Historical festival Rotenstien

In the traditional spring date, the biggest Slovak festival of history and knighthood - Rotenstein - opens its gates to the Middle Ages. The festival is focused on an extensive historical programme, with the participation of a large knights' cavalry. There will be ancient music, swordsmen, drummers, beautiful magicians and jugglers, falconers and dog trainers. Children will not be able to stop smiling. Children and rural life enthusiasts will enjoy medieval cuisine, tastings and presentation of medieval breeds of animals. At the festival you will find not only ancient food and snacks with a medieval touch. If you wander to our ancient camps, you will definitely not leave empty-handed. Part of the medieval life was the medieval cuisine, of which you can definitely have a taste.

3. National pilgrimage to the patron of Slovakia

The pilgrimage has been held for centuries, officially since 1732, when the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows was officially acknowledged by the Church. Šaštín is annually visited by approx. 20 000 people during the national pilgrimage; in the Our Lady of Sorrows Anniversary year of 2014 it was 50 000 pilgrims. The pinnacle of the pilgrimage is the holiday of the patron of Slovakia on 15 September.

4. Dni zelá (Cabbage days)

The aim of the festival Dni zelá is to preserve the traditional growing and processing of regional species of cabbage, known for their specific taste. From cabbage to traditional craft fair and music programme, the festival attracts thousands of visitors every year. This year, the festival Dni zelá will be celebrating its 22th anniversary. Dni zelá in Stupava is one of the biggest festivals in Záhorie. The idea behind it is the preservation of the traditions in the Záhorie region, promotion of local cabbage growing and processing, presentation of local folk groups, communities and cultural sights, and, last but not least, the local culinary delicacies. The festival's rich programme includes the three-day long Craft Fair with traditional craft products, hand-made products and snacks and the exhibition “Harvest” – a vegetable and sauerkraut market. There is also the attractive cabbage soup cooking contest “My varíme ze zelá” (We cook from cabbage). The cultural programme is for everyone, offering many contests, attractions, regional dishes and live concerts.

SAHARA – an event focused mainly on military history and army technology from the last century. In its beginnings, it was a meeting where the veteran community could present the civilian and military veteran cars and race. Today it is still possible to participate in an interesting race of vehicles competing on a difficult, sandy terrain. The contestants can put their technology to a test under extreme conditions and compete in various categories. Score is awarded for each competition and successful contestants on the podium receive valuable prizes. In addition to stationary demonstrations of historical military technology, contests and a parade, another important part of the programme are the combat demonstrations by the historical army clubs, mainly concerning the Second World War and the Slovak National Uprising. Nevertheless, events of the post-war history are presented as well (Czechoslovak People's Army). The present is shown in the demonstrations of the Military Technical and Testing Institute Záhorie. It is an event worth visiting. It is one of the unique events Europe-wide and it is worthy of its superlatives: biggest and most important in the Slovak Republic.

6. 1st of May in Malacky

During the 1st of May celebrations, both citizens and tourists, whether they are old or young, have the opportunity to enjoy cultural and sports activities, lots of craft stalls and full-day events. Visitors of the event can enjoy folk music concerts, pop and rock music performances, theatrical performances, sports competitions and fun games for children. During the festivities, you can spot many musicians, athletes, real and fake Indians, town police, medieval warriors, hidden artists, alternative stage, metalheads, beautiful people, known or unknown faces from the TV screen and carousels. Visitors can enjoy roasted pork, grilled specialties, gingerbread, trdelník (spit cake) and other delicacies. The manor park is ready to welcome and entertain visitors of all ages.

7. CIBULA Fest

CIBULA FEST is a multi-genre "Open Air" festival. The event is primarily focused on the presentation of Czech and Slovak music scene. This priority direction is complemented with genres from around the world. The aim is diversification, comparison and, above all, the inexhaustible possibilities of the offer, which in turn guarantees the uniqueness and attractiveness of the event. The programme is complemented with with adrenaline, entertainment, adventure, educational and children's attractions, games and competitions. The aim of the festival is to create space for every generation, age category and for families with children at reasonable entrance fee. (Children up to 10 years of age accompanied by an adult do not pay the fee.)

8. Trdlofest

Trdlofest - a festival full of music, trdelník (spit cake), wine and good mood. Throughout the event, visitors can take part in various competitions, such as bean soup and trdelník eating contests, the competition "bake your trdelník", or kettle goulash cooking contest with the Kelt beer. The organizers thought about the youngest visitors as well, there will be children's attractions and a fairy tale in the afternoon. There will be many accompanying events such as various exhibitions. Throughout the day, the historical monuments of Skalica will be open to the public free of charge. Visitors will be able to visit 12 cultural and historical monuments.

9. ŠTRAMÁK fest

Štramák fest - Beer festivities in the pleasant environment of a park. Kids zone in the park, entertainers and children's theatres, musical performances, great food, and the best beers from the region on tap.

10. Slovenské piesky (Slovak sands)

The event taking place under the auspices of the Ministry of Defence will offer demonstrations of modern shooting techniques, historical vehicles and tours of the historical military camps. You will also see the flight of the Slovak Air Forces, combat demonstrations, as well as static and dynamic demonstrations of the Armed Forces.
